Holiday commitments and resolutions

OK here we are in a new year and have promised ourselves that we will do things a little different or have a whole new outlook on things. This usually last for about the first three months as experience has given me. However, there is hope, the things that I have learned in 2009 will have a profound effect on 2010. By this I mean we learn from our past or our mistakes. The problem with resolutions is not that they are too far fetched but that the lack of discipline for them are not matched by the desires that provoked them to begin with. That doesn't mean that all is lost, it just means using a different approach to the age old problem of Murphy's law if something might go wrong it probably will go wrong.

My dad was an avid Black Jack player and what he taught me was to always assume that the unseen card the dealer was holding was a face card. This little bit of a mind set has proven to work for me in many different ways. A designer always has to expect the unexpected by expecting it in the first place. While no one can predict what exactly what will happen they can control the direction that they wish it to go. This is accomplished by eliminating possible pitfalls and recognizing any uncertainty that might lie ahead. Planning is an essential part of everyday life, but to practice those essentials is hard, by this I am talking about persistence in staying focused. The mind set has so much to do with the outcome of most situations and by having an edge always helps. Know what direction you want and plan ahead for disaster. This can almost always work, while some problems might not be avoided at least you are prepared.

The second most important thing that I have found is to accept criticism. This can come in many forms and to be criticized does not necessarily mean that what you are doing is wrong, it just means that someone else has a different opinion. In many cases I have found that by doing the things the way I see them is usually the best for me. By this I mean I might have a different approach to the same problem that everyone else is having. That's the same thing as saying it does not matter at what speed you are traveling, if both people are heading to the same place and to reach the same destination as long as they get there safe and that makes everyone a winner. However, by listening to constructive criticism by others who have chewed the same piece of dirt can make you stronger and more aware of your surroundings as you travel down that long unpaved road to success.

The last piece of advice that I can give you is to surround yourself with positive friends. This element that I have found has been the biggest resource that I have found to re-installing old ideas when the chips fall in a UN-desirable direction. This is also a chance to brain storm and correct any uncertainty that requires attention to detail. This method is always a positive move in the right direction and proves to be the best when you are feeling any doubt of what direction the situation is going. When in doubt always refer back to rule number one and plan on the unexpected. As the old saying goes two heads are better than one and when in doubt ask somebody that knows.

We wish everyone a very happy and prosperous new year. Our hopes are that everyone will achieve their goals and dreams so that they will have the best that life has to offer. So build on the determination of what you wish to achieve and never say never. Surround yourself with a positive influence and stay focused, most importantly plan ahead. Thanks to everyone who has supported us as we continue to grow and we look forward to helping everyone express themselves. We can all help each other.

From the desk of,

LSDesign
